Relating the Value of

HealthScreensTM

“Thirty years as a diagnostic radiologist have taught me that detecting disease early, or establishing its potential development far outweigh its acute and sometimes catastrophic arrival. Screening while symptom free can provide either peace of mind or avoidance of a potential emergency with associated pain and physical and financial consequences. Screening is a win/win for patients either way.”

James Hecker, MD

“When you discover things early from the screenings, it is easier to be preventive in the diagnosis, than playing catch up for your healthcare.”

Pranav Patel, DO, FACC

“Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. If more people at a younger age take advantage of HealthScreensTM, early detection of problems can be brought to the attention of their doctor. With this screening, many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented.”

Patrick Quinn, DO, FACC

“I have seen many patients that have used HealthScreensTM before coming to see me for evaluation. HealthScreensTM allows for early detection of vascular problems that tend to be easier to treat.

Joseph A. Caplan, MD, FACC

During one of my husband’s screenings, the ultrasound technician discovered a node that I know would not have been discovered any other way. This is not a test given through his regular doctor. Through subsequent testing, we were told not to worry and have scheduled a biopsy. Whatever the outcome, this early detection is so important, and we thank you very much. We strongly support your program and will continue to take advantage of it.

I signed up for 5 screenings. One of them was my carotid arteries. Because of a huge (unknown, no symptoms) mass in the right lobe of my thyroid gland that was pushing against the right carotid artery, it was obvious that all was not right. I saw an ENT, had many tests, and ultimately it was found that I had medullary thyroid cancer. I’ve had surgery now, and am on the mend. As if that was not enough, I found out that I have a bit of a circulation problem and plaque build-up on the left side – I’m only 60! The other screenings I chose showed no problems. All of this life-saving information at such a reasonable price – I sincerely believe this manner of screening to be the best kept medical “secret” out there.

My test was negative, but my husband’s was positive. It showed a large aneurysm, so we followed up at our local hospital and he was sent to AHI where he underwent a series of tests and had surgery on April 1st. He came home two days later and is getting along very well. Just wanted to say thanks for making the screenings available.

In my situation, the sonograms revealed fluid in my kidneys and lungs and the thyroid. Within a week, I got an appointment with my doctor. After examining the sonograms, she suggested an ultrasound of the thyroid and an Echo of my heart. After the Echo, my doctor referred me to a heart specialist who diagnosed a valve leakage and also an irregular rhythm. My situation was at the point of congestive heart failure. Just to think what might have happened if I had not enrolled in HealthScreensTM.

I was feeling fine and had just passed a physician-office physical with flying colors. Mostly to satisfy my wife’s curiosity, I went to a HealthScreensTM program. The ultrasound screen turned up a large kidney tumor – which was removed by surgery a few days later. My urologist/surgeon told me I was the second “find” from your screening that had come to him. I am very grateful for your professionalism – I will tell everyone.

I was feeling fine, but since the price was right, I took advantage of the opportunity at HealthScreensTM to obtain ultrasound scans of my thyroid, kidney, and liver. The scans revealed two potentially life-threatening problems that my last physical had missed: fluid and swelling of my kidney and adenoma type lesions in the thyroid. Having lost one kidney 40 years ago, I have great need for the other to remain healthy. And having had a history of excessive radiation exposure, my thyroid cancer risk is high. Armed with your kidney scan I sought out a specialist who upon further investigation found two kidney stones and a very swollen kidney. The stones (one week later) are now gone and the kidney is functioning normally. Next, I plan to consult a thyroid surgeon to address that problem.

It is with great appreciation that I thank you and your staff for allowing me and my husband to obtain your reasonably priced health screen program. We both passed the cardiac profile with flying colors giving us peace of mind, but most importantly two potentially dangerous insidious conditions in my case were uncovered. All this took only a few minutes of our time and the total cost was less than a day of golf and dinner at Saddle Brooke. We can’t thank you enough.

First, let me say that your Foundation has saved my life! Without that screening I would be living my life daily not aware that I am carrying around a potential time bomb. During the abdominal scan, two somewhat enlarged lymph nodes were discovered. After ten months of sonograms, CT scans, biopsies and a laparotomy done just last month I was finally diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, stage I. Thankfully my oncologist requested a six month follow-up scan event though I never had nor continue to have symptoms; no night sweats, no itching, no red patchy skin, etc. Because of being asymptomatic no physician would ever have put me through that battery of tests I have been through in the past year to reach this diagnosis without that sonogram report I brought to their attention after my screening.

I can only say that everyone should get a screening and if there are any abnormal findings they make sure and follow-up with their physician because you just never know when they could be the other 1 out of a million people to have what I have. Because of the early stage diagnosis the radiation and immunotherapy that I start this week will more than likely allow me to live a somewhat normal life for hopefully many years to come. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your Foundation provides a lifesaving service.

I must tell you that I am “alive and kickin” now because of last year’s HealthScreensTM. I failed the heart portion of the tests and had heart surgery in July last summer when I returned home from Arizona. The left anterior descending artery of my heart was 99% occluded. I would probably not have known about this problem until it was too late. Cheers for the HealthScreensTM opportunity!

I think your HealthScreensTM sonogram of my gallbladder may have saved my life. A HealthScreensTM sonogram showed that a very large gallstone that could have perforated my gallbladder caused my “indigestion”. I took your scan to my internist, who immediately referred me to a surgeon, who scheduled my surgery 48 hours later. Emergency surgery due to your service possibly saved my life.

With no symptoms, I decided to try HealthScreensTM. The technician spotted a large mass on my left kidney. I went immediately to my doctor. The kidney was soon removed and my surgeon said it was a miracle that the malignant tumor was found and removed before it spread – no treatment was needed. I shall be forever grateful for God’s Grace, HealthScreensTM and a wonderful surgeon. I have urged all of my friends to take advantage of HealthScreensTM.

My husband and I went to HealthScreensTM. At the time one of the tests my husband had was the Stroke Screen PlusTM. The technician who administered the test found that my husband had approximately 90% occlusion in his carotid artery. We went to the doctor’s office immediately and they scheduled an ultrasound. At the ultrasound the doctor recommended that my husband be admitted to a hospital immediately. He was admitted where they did an angiogram and found 95% occlusion and scheduled immediate surgery. The surgery was successful and Norm is recovering very well. It is just a Godsend that we went to that screening. I think we requested being notified when you have screenings again next year, but if we didn’t, please put us on your list. You saved my husband’s life. Thank you.

I participated in the HealthScreensTM program. Since I have had regular physical exams, I was surprised that a large nodule was discovered on my right thyroid and smaller ones on the left, none previously identified. My doctor referred me to an excellent endocrinologist. With a thorough examination, he diagnosed an enlarged thyroid. Following additional ultrasound screening, he referred me to a surgeon for a needle biopsy. A malignant, but slow growing tumor was identified. I had surgery to remove the malignant thyroid followed with radiation the next month. I feel blessed that your screening program detected the nodules when I had no recognizable physical symptoms, so that excellent treatment has me in good health.

I am writing to thank you for literally saving my life. My husband and I attended a health screening. At the time you discovered a mass on the left kidney area while doing an abdominal ultrasound. We were both shocked, as I had never had any symptoms. Upon completion of the screening you very calmly and professionally suggested that I might want to see a doctor as soon as possible. I followed your advice. A CAT scan, blood work, and chest x-ray were completed. A mass slightly larger than shown on the ultrasound was revealed. It was in the kidney, encapsulated and no evidence of metastasis was found anywhere in the abdomen. I had a nephrectomy, adrenalectomy, and partial ureterectomy done along with removal of all the aortic nodes. Pathology showed clean nodes and encapsulated renal carcinoma, clear cell Type II. I was very lucky!

I had an excellent recovery. We took a ten-day trip eight weeks later and haven’t stopped since. Protocol follow-up for this type of tumor will be a CAT scan, blood tests, and chest x-ray every six months for two years and then less frequent after that time.

I went to an internist, surgeon and two oncologists (one at Mayo Clinic). All were just shocked you picked this up and also impressed with the quality of the ultrasound printout. Their mouths fell open and eyes widened when they learned I had no symptoms. All doctors said I probably had this two years or longer!

As you know, Clear Cell carcinoma has no treatment at this time. So if you had not spent so much time, my future would not be so bright!! If you ever need a spokesperson, I’d be happy to do anything I can to help you. I also happen to be a retired RN. Thank you again for being so caring that day!!

I had an appointment with my primary care physician for my annual physical. I brought with me a schedule of the different screenings being offered by HealthScreensTM at my church and asked that my doctor check which ones he thought would be appropriate for me. At this point I felt I was in excellent condition, but I am very health conscious and thought this might be a good thing to do. My doctor checked off four of the tests – stroke, heart, gallbladder, and for what appeared to be no special reason – liver. (I think doctors have a certain God-given sense that goes beyond rational.) I took the recommended health screenings at my church. Three of the tests turned out OK, but the liver scan showed a mass. I could hardly believe it, but I returned to my doctor and had additional testing which culminated in a liver biopsy revealing cancerous nodules at the site stemming from the original source in the colon.

This week I am having my fifth chemo shot and blood work that will reveal progress made thus far in shrinking the nodules. Needless to say, I’m most grateful that this malignancy was discovered before it came to light in the form of pain. While I believe that my doctor would have come to this discovery, how much longer might it have taken? Perhaps too long.

I am certainly in the debt of my doctors, HealthScreensTM, and my church parish nurse who arranged this screening at my church. This very positive experience may very well have been a lifesaver!

Mary
